Beach Holidays in Bagamoyo

The town of Bagamoyo was one of the most important trading ports on the East African coast and the penultimate stop of slave and ivory caravans travelling on foot from Lake Tanganyika on their way to Zanzibar. Once the caravans reached Bagamoyo, the slaves and ivory were shipped by dhow to Zanzibar, where they were then dispatched all over the world. The name Bagamoyo comes from Swahili words "Bwaga Moyo" (Throw down your heart), a despair expressed by people who were captured as slaves of knowing that they face a long uncertain future. Bagamoyo is now a centre for dhow sailboat building on the Tanzanian coast. A quiet village with a few German colonial buildings still standing in the past.

We leave in Zanzibar every day at 6am to Bagamoyo. As a full day excursion, the price include all entrance fees, 20% VAT, Government tax, 2 ways boat trip, life jackets on board, snacks on board, tour in Bagamoyo with a tour guide plus a min bus for your tour. After enjoying with your tour, we take you to the restaurant for lunch, then to the beach for leisure before sailing back to Zanzibar.

This small town has played various historical roles in Tanzania. Apart from being a slave and ivory port, it was also a German headquarter in 1891. Explorers such as Burton, Speke, Grant, Livingston and Stanley all passed in this town which lies 75 kilometers north of Dar es Salaam. Now much faded, Bagamoyo remains an interesting place with beautiful white sand beaches, exotic marine life, historical building, calm people and much more....
